The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen issued a statement following the US decision to impose tariffs on European steel and aluminium exports.

At the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit in Paris, President von der Leyen has launched InvestAI, an initiative to mobilise €200 billion for investment in AI, including a new European fund of €20 billion for AI gigafactories. This is needed to develop the most complex AI models in Europe.

Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia are now fully independent from Russia's and Belarus's electricity systems, after joining the European continental network via Poland. President von der Leyen was in Vilnius to mark this historic moment along with the Presidents of the three Baltic States and Poland.

The Commissioners travelled to Gdańsk, in Poland, to mark the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU. They exchanged on the priorities of the Presidency and on how they will work together to deliver on a European Union that is more secure and more competitive.

At the 2025 EU Ambassadors Conference President von der Leyen exchanged with them on the EU’s priorities in foreign policy and diplomacy. She stressed that the EU must maintain its composure and continue strengthening partnerships around the world.
